Sustainability Business Development Lead

San Francisco, CA, USA Remote

Full time

Nov 15

Patch is building the infrastructure to power a climate positive economy and scale carbon removal. Businesses can leverage our API to automatically calculate their footprint and make any transaction carbon-neutral. Offset projects use our consumer-grade platform to manage their business, find new customers and scale their technology.‍

We're a small team of successful startup veterans building a category-defining business in an industry the world deeply needs. We're backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Version One, Pale Blue Dot, and are founded by the same team who helped take Sonder from 0 to 2B.

About this role

First and foremost we're looking for people who are excited about what we're doing and the opportunity to help scale the carbon removal industry. You’ll be deeply plugged into market research, policies, trends, and emerging technologies - and you’ll guide the company as well as our customers through the changing landscape.

This is a partner-facing role - on the supply side, you’ll be working closely with our supply partners to develop a deep understanding of their product and ensure our listing standards are met. On the demand side, you’ll be interfacing directly with customers on calls and advising them on their requirements.

Analyze & Decide

Carbon removal technologies vary greatly in complexity and effectiveness. Help us refine and apply frameworks for project evaluation that enable us to onboard the highest quality projects onto our platform.

Educate & Advise

Carbon removal is new and complicated, and potential buyers want guidance on how to approach their investment and meet their sustainability goals. Your job is to understand the complexity and distill it down into simple explainers to help buyers make purchasing decisions that fit their unique objectives.

Celebrate & Inspire

Our suppliers get up every morning and remove carbon from the atmosphere. They're heroes and they deserve to be celebrated. You’ll help us tell the world about the incredible things they're doing.‍

What you'll do

  • Develop a deep understanding of our supply and demand customers. Build relationships across our network and continuously evaluate opportunities to better serve their needs.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for our customers. Be available to research and answer a wide range of questions on projects, offset programs, methodologies, pricing, carbon claims, sustainability reporting, etc.
  • Drive trust at Patch. Own vetting, evaluation, 3rd party relationships and leverage your connections with consultancies in the space.
  • Refine and improve our framework for project evaluation across every technology category. Lead evaluation and onboarding for the dozens of projects that we add each quarter. Maintain and update detailed documentation on each supplier and be available to answer detailed questions.
  • Develop materials that help potential buyers evaluate the carbon offsets landscape and think through their purchasing strategy. Help buyers create portfolios of projects that meet their requirements.
  • Scout and evaluate additional partnership opportunities.
  • Be a thought leader in this space. Contribute to blog posts, articles, and newsletters that deliver useful content to our network of customers and prospects.
  • Collaborate with leads across Patch. Work closely with Business Development on quarterly business reviews with supply partners and Product on the product roadmap.

Your experience (must haves)

  • 7+ years of work experience.
  • Prior experience in voluntary carbon markets preferred.
  • You have a great grasp of the various carbon removal technologies, participants, and market trends.
  • You love problem solving and are a structured thinker. You have the ability to create simple, yet effective frameworks that guide others through your process.
  • You’re an exceptional communicator, both written and oral, and can easily distill complex concepts and cater your communications to any audience.
  • You have a strong track record independently delivering work as well as influencing the work of others.
  • You are persuasive and humble in explaining your work, process, and decisions and crave feedback to help you create at your best.
  • You are excited for a front-row seat into a fast growing, early stage company. You’re comfortable with ambiguity and making progress within constraints.
